Finally, a government plan that will help homeowners achieve a more efficient home. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) is designed to help stimulate the economy and offset some of the investment that you will make in more efficient HVAC equipment, energy efficient windows or water heating equipment to your primary residence.
The tax credit is retroactive back to January 1, 2009 and will expire on December 31, 2010. For qualified home improvements the tax credit is 30% of the installed cost or up to $1,500. This is higher than any other government credit or rebate program to date. This credit does have a cap of $1,500 for the two years and not for each year. It is important to take full advantage of this and start saving energy this Summer. Most of these eligible systems can save the typical household an average of 47% off of your energy usage with a qualifying system.
While traditional HVAC systems have a $1500.00 cap, a Geothermal heat pump equipment does not. The expiration time period for these systems has been extended to December 31, 2016. For example, if you have a Geothermal installed for $60,000 you would receive a tax credit for $18,000. Geothermal systems can save up to 68% over traditional equipment. Middle Tennessee has an ideal geographic climate for Geothermal systems.
