You’re a Winner with Lee Company

October 26, 2016

When you work with Lee Company, you’re working with the best. And you don’t have to take our word for it! The Greater Tennessee Chapter of the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC), and the North Alabama Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC), recently honored Lee Company with five Excellence in Construction awards.

To make this announcement even sweeter, every project Lee Company submitted in the ABC competition, won. We consider that tremendous validation that Lee Company delivers exceptional service to customers, no matter how unusual or challenging the work might be.

Award winners are chosen by a panel of construction experts, based on project scope and safety records. The panel considers innovation, quality control, scheduling, value provided and the contractor’s ability to overcome special obstacles and extenuating circumstances. In other words, the same things you care about when choosing a contractor!

Thanks to all our customers for trusting us with their projects, and to the Lee Company professionals whose dedication and great work contributed to the 2016 ABC honors. Our award-winning projects include:

Making the Smart Choice – Belmont University

October 21, 2016

  • 2016 Eagle and Excellence Awards from Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC)
  • Client: Belmont University, Jack C. Massey Business Building
  • Category: Mechanical Commercial/Institutional $2 – 10 million

Students at Belmont University earn As. When you’re a top contractor on campus, you earn ABCs – an ABC award that is!

Congratulations to the Lee Company team who worked on the Belmont University – Jack C. Massey Building project. The Greater Tennessee Chapter of the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) recently honored their work with an Eagle Award in the Mechanical Commercial/Institutional $2 – 10 million division. The project also received an Award of Excellence from the North Alabama Chapter of the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC).

When it was time for Belmont University in Nashville to renovate the Jack C. Massey Business Building, there was a clear choice for handling the mechanical work: Lee Company. After all, we served as the mechanical contractor when the building was erected in 1989!

Working with RC Mathews, the general contractor, Lee Company faced a huge test – the need to renovate a campus classic in tight quarters and an equally tight timeframe. We had a 90-day window to complete four floors of renovations.

Fortunately, study and preparation pay off. Lee Company’s fabrication facility allowed us to preassemble piping systems, and deliver them to the site for just-in-time delivery, minimizing the disruption of day-to-day campus activities and keeping the project on schedule. The facility was completed on time for the class of 2016 and within budget – proving, once again, that Lee Company is the smart choice.

Music to Our Ears – Bonnaroo 2016

October 21, 2016

  • 2016 Merit and Excellence Awards from Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC)
  • Client: Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival
  • Category: Mechanical Commercial/Institutional Under $2 million

Congratulations to the Lee Company team who worked on the Bonaroo Music and Arts Festival project! Their outstanding work has been recognized by the Greater Tennessee Chapter of the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) with a Merit Award in the Mechanical Commercial/Institutional under $2 million division. The project also received an Award of Excellence from the North Alabama Chapter of the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC).

If you’ve ever attended the annual Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival in Manchester, TN, you know it’s a fantastic event, covering four days and attracting more than 80,000 attendees from all over the world. You also know that there have never been any permanent restrooms for those 80,000 people.

Superfly, the production house for the festival, wanted to build two permanent restroom facilities before the 2016 festival kicked off. General contractor Boyce Ballard reached out to Lee Company in February 2016 to see if it was even possible to do the HVAC and plumbing by June.

Lee Company made it happen, with a combined effort that included our pre-construction, fabrication, engineering and operations teams. When all was said and done, the new bathrooms were ready for the festival and opened to “standing ovations” from fans, musicians and the media! No wonder this entire Lee Company team is flushed with success.

Ensuring Insurance Success – Asurion Insurance

October 21, 2016

  • 2016 Eagle and Excellence Awards from Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC)
  • Client: Asurion Insurance Services
  • Electrical Commercial/Institutional Under $2 million category

Congratulations to the Lee Company team who worked on the Asurion Insurance Services project! Their outstanding work was recently recognized by the Greater Tennessee Chapter of the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) with an Eagle Award in the Electrical Commercial/Institutional under $2 million division. The project also received an Award of Excellence from the North Alabama Chapter of the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC).

You only get one chance to make a first impression. Asurion Insurance Services, a global IT company, wanted the first floor of its national headquarters to look better to visitors, including prospective employees and clients. After all, the impression you make matters, and Asurion works with such leading companies as Target, Visa and Direct TV.

Asurion knew its atrium lobby and first-floor restrooms needed renovating. But the Nashville HQ houses more than 1200 employees and a call center. The project had to be completed with no power outages or work interruptions.

To ensure success, Asurion hired Lee Company for the renovations. Lee Company upgraded the facility to modern LED high-efficiency lighting and updated all the plumbing to fully automated fixtures.

The Lee Company team made a lasting impression, working days, nights and weekends to complete the job beautifully and without any interruptions for employees on site. Congrats and thanks to everyone on the team!

Success is Sweet – Maplehurst Bakeries

October 21, 2016

  • 2016 Eagle and Excellence Awards from Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC)
  • Client: Maplehurst Bakeries
  • Category: Mechanical Industrial $2 – 10 million

Congratulations and thanks to our team on the Maplehurst Bakeries project, recently honored by the Greater Tennessee Chapter of the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) with an Eagle Award in the Mechanical Industrial $2 – $10 million category. The project also received an Award of Excellence from the North Alabama Chapter of the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC).

Maplehurst Bakeries, established in 1967, produces frozen bakery goods that are sold in grocery stores, supermarkets and other retail outlets throughout North America. As the business grew, the company decided to expand operations with a new manufacturing facility in Lebanon, TN.

With demands high and the schedule tight, Stellar – the general contractor – clearly needed a well-seasoned team of professionals on the job. Having worked with Lee Company before, Stellar asked us to handle the ductwork and equipment associated with the HVAC system, along with some of the plumbing.

The partnership was a recipe for success. Despite delays, scheduling issues and weather challenges, Lee Company, Stellar and Maplehurst worked together to find solutions and keep everything moving. With 11,714 field hours worked, Lee Company had zero recordable accidents and the new facility was ready for Maplehurst to begin baking test products by the March 2016 deadline. Now, Stellar is talking with us about the next project – an expansion of this facility. Sweet!

Keep It Clean – Proper Polymers

October 21, 2016

  • 2016 Eagle and Merit Awards from Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC)
  • Client: Proper Polymers
  • Category: Mechanical Industrial Under $2 million

Congratulations to the Lee Company team who worked on the Proper Polymers project! Their outstanding work has been recognized by the Greater Tennessee Chapter of the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) with an Eagle Award in the Mechanical Industrial under $2 million division. The project also received a Merit Award from the North Alabama Chapter of the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC).

When Proper Polymers decided to locate their new production facility in Pulaski, TN, the general contractor, Brindley Construction, called Lee Company. We met with the Proper Poymer team, assessed the situation, and launched a design development process to provide ventilation, heating, air-conditioning, plumbing, process cooling, and compressed air to support the current and future needs of the facility.

It was a big job with a big challenge. The existing building chosen to house the new facility was not designed to meet the needs of a very clean and close-tolerance manufacturing process. Lee Company suggested creating a new – and separate – mechanical room on the exterior of the building.

Throughout the project, the Lee Company team worked closely with Proper Polymer’s production engineers, a successful working relationship that enabled an accelerated production start in September 2015. The proper response? Congratulations and thanks to all involved!

Bill Lee is presented volunteer honor by the YMCA

July 12, 2016

Bill Lee, chairman of our company, is a longtime volunteer with the YMCA of Middle Tennessee, having joined the YMCA’s board of directors in 2008. According to the Y, Bill has been “a true champion for positive youth development in our community.”

The life-changing power of Bill’s involvement was clear at the YMCA’s recent awards ceremony, when 16-year-old Adam Smith presented Bill, his mentor, with the organization’s highest volunteer honor: the Order of the Red Triangle.

“If I hadn’t met Bill, I probably wouldn’t be thinking about my future today,” Adam said. “I would be going to a low-performance school, I might not be in sports, and I probably would be in a lot of trouble. Bill brings out the light in people that others may not see. He brought out the light in me.”

Accepting the award, Bill told the crowd that he’s the one who has learned – from Adam.

“As volunteers, we really become the recipients not only of awards, but of life-changing experiences,” Bill said. “The difficulties and lack of choices and the dangers that lie for a young man like Adam have been completely made aware to me, and that has changed my desire to not only impact one kid’s life, but makes me want to impact a lot of kids’ lives.”

One by one, we can all make a difference. Watch the video of Adam and Bill here – the few minutes will truly brighten your day. Then, take the next step! Share the Lee Company tradition. Get involved.

A beautiful story of the Volunteer State

May 20, 2016

For some people, the “Volunteer State” is just another name for Tennessee. For Mary Catherine Strobel, it was the perfect description of home. This amazing woman survived incredible hardships; helped family, friends and strangers; and established a tradition of giving to those in need.

Knowing her story, we consider it a huge honor that Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee nominated Lee Company for the 2016 Mary Catherine Strobel Volunteer Awards. Thank you! We were humbled to be one of three finalists in the corporate volunteerism category.

2016 Stroble Awards Lee Company

Congratulations to all the nominees, finalists and winners. The awards ceremony on April 21 was an amazing event. The inspirational stories we heard made it clear that everyone there was a winner. And it was wonderful to see how volunteers of all ages and backgrounds roll up their sleeves and devote their talents and time to serve others, even people they may never meet.

The Lee Company team considers this recognition a great honor for us, and a tribute to you. Our nomination salutes the heartfelt efforts of all our employees and customers. Thank you for supporting our Vans4Cans campaign year after year, and helping us feed the hungry.

We encourage you to take Mary Catherine Strobel’s heritage to heart. Find a volunteer program you love, and get involved in the community!
