Get your home winter ready!

November 13, 2015

Fall weather in Tennessee brings some of the brightest, crisp days followed by below freezing temperatures when the sun goes down.  It’s important to protect your home during these cold nights.  Here are a few tips on how to get your home ready for sub-freezing nights:

Windows and Doors

Check the weather-stripping around your windows and doors for cracks or damage that can let heat escape from you home.  If you have wooden window frames, check for signs of rot or decay.  Pay attention to areas of your home where you feel a draft, you may need to add some extra caulking or consider getting your windows inspected by a professional.

Protect your plants

Freezing temperatures can wreak havoc on your garden.  Bring plants indoors if at all possible when temperatures plummet.  Cover other outdoor plants with sheets or blankets to hold in heat from the soil to protect your plants from damage.  Be sure to uncover your plants when temperatures rise above freezing in the morning.

Now is the time to inspect your plumbing for leaks and start prepping for those hard winter freezes.  Finding leaks and getting them repaired now can save you a lot of trouble down the road when temperatures can stay below freezing for days.  Be sure to wrap any pipes that are exposed to the elements with extra insulation to help protect against frozen pipes that can burst.

If you’re like most of us, you don’t spend much time thinking about the gutters on your home, but Fall is the time to keep an eye on them.  Leaves and debris fill gutters this time of year and add unwanted weight to your home’s eaves and block proper water flow when it rains.  This blocked water can freeze and add even more weight to your gutters which can lead to roof damage.

Need help with anything you’ve read here?  The Lee Company team of experts are here to help from providing plumbing safety inspections to replacing damaged windows and doors.  Give us a call for anything you need help with around the house.  Our team is ready 24/7 to serve you and your family!

Is it time to add outdoor lighting to your home?

November 05, 2015

The time change may have given us an extra hour of sleep this past weekend, but it also marked the beginning of early sunsets.  For the next few months, most of us will be getting home just in time for daylight hours to come to an end.  Outdoor and landscape lighting can help you get the most out of your home during these extended nighttime hours, while also making your home a safe and inviting place to be for the upcoming holiday season.

Outdoor landscape lighting

Here are four great benefits you can expect from adding some extra light to your home:

Curb appeal

Homes that are well-lit when it’s dark outside stand out in a good way compared to darker homes.  Lights add that extra lived-in, welcoming feel that we all want our homes to have.  Also, you’ve worked hard to get you landscaping just how you like it, outdoor lighting can be designed to highlight what you love most about your home.

With the days getting shorter this time of year, it’s harder to get the most out of your outdoor living spaces.  Adding some extra lighting can help extend the functional hours of your patio or back yard long after the sun goes down.

Home Security

Illuminated homes are less of a target for mischievous individuals.  It is harder for burglars and vandals to get near a well-lit home without being seen.  When installing outdoor and landscape lights, you should consider strategically brightening areas that could be appealing entry points to someone with bad intentions.

Personal and guest safety

Protect your friends, family, and even yourself from tripping and falling by shining some light on potential hazards.  When improperly lit, stairs and dips in the pavement can present a very real danger to visitors who aren’t familiar with your property.  Additional outdoor light can help you avoid unwanted accidents and injuries to you and those you love.

Just like no two families are the same, at Lee Company we recognize that no two homes are the same.  Call the experts at Lee Company to have a skilled technician personalize an outdoor and landscape lighting plan just for you!  Contact us by calling your local office or visit today!

Paychecks for Patriots

September 29, 2015

American veterans keep America strong. At Lee Company, we’re proud to support our vets – and to hire them! We have many veterans on staff, and have found that their discipline, dedication and determination are a perfect fit with the Lee Company culture. We share the same values, with a rock-solid commitment to excellence, integrity, ethics and compassion.

The connection is clear from day one. At Lee Company, veterans have the opportunity to build a satisfying professional career while continuing to serve their community. For example, one Lee Company team could be changing the Nashville skyline with buildings and structures that define the future. On the other side of town, another Lee Company team might be helping a family turn a house in need of repair into a welcoming home.

Either way – in facilities or homes – the work we do helps shape the world around us.

Opportunities abound

For veterans interested in translating their military experience into administrative excellence, Lee Company offers additional opportunities. For example, our senior vice president of operations, Stuart Price, applies the lessons he learned at the U.S. Naval Academy and the leadership experience he gained as a Navy officer to help Lee Company customers every day.

Veterans like Stuart are accustomed to being part of a greater good, to contributing their talents to strengthen and protect our country. Lee Company is honored to give vets an opportunity to continue serving and helping while, at the same time, building a career that brings joy and rewards to them and their families.

A Blitz and a Blessing

August 17, 2015

“Your home is where our heart is.” And, in July, Lee Company’s professional plumbers embraced a heartwarming opportunity, volunteering for our third annual Builders Blitz with Habitat for Humanity of Williamson and Maury counties.

During the 15-day build, our team provided all the plumbing labor required at the new home, including installation of the water heater.

“We love serving our community, so every year we look forward to the Home Builders Blitz,” says Zac Coppock, Plumbing Field Supervisor. “It’s wonderful to be part of the teamwork and dedication that goes into building a home that will be a great blessing to a deserving family in need!”

This year’s home was built for KaRynda Barner and her three daughters. Since applying to Habitat for Humanity in October 2011, KaRynda has been working hard for their new home, taking the required classes and building sweat equity by helping to build homes for other families.

“I loved working on other homes and taking classes on how to maintain my house,” KaRynda says. “I feel so blessed that I will have the opportunity to own my own home. I look forward to being able to provide a better life for my children. The Habitat program is such a blessing.”

Thanks to our friends at Kenny Pipe and Supply for donating the plumbing materials. Working together, we can all be a blessing. You’ll find more information on Habitat for Humanity here.

Out of Sight, Out of Mind: Do you know what’s in your crawl space?

July 27, 2015

Who wants to explore what lies in the dark and mysterious space beneath their home?  Most of us don’t even want to think about it. But there could be hazards right under your feet.  Just because you can’t see the danger, doesn’t mean it’s not there.

Inspect crawl space annually The truth is, if your crawl space isn’t regularly inspected, you could have HVAC, electrical, and/or plumbing issues that are progressing day by day.  A neglected crawl space can contain:

  • Excessive humidity causing moisture issues
  • Leaking or broken duct work
  • Hazardous wiring that could be sparking
  • Improperly insulated pipes that could freeze in the winter months
  • Busted drains
  • Standing water

And that’s just to name a few.  The good news? As a Lee Company Home Maintenance Member, you’ll receive four annual visits from our expert technicians – and they’re happy to  inspect your crawl space.  For as low as $8.25/ month or $99/year you will receive an air conditioning tune-up, heating tune-up, electrical inspection, and plumbing inspection.  If you haven’t signed up already, give us a call today or visit us at!
