Out of Sight, Out of Mind: Do you know what’s in your crawl space?

July 27, 2015

Who wants to explore what lies in the dark and mysterious space beneath their home?  Most of us don’t even want to think about it. But there could be hazards right under your feet.  Just because you can’t see the danger, doesn’t mean it’s not there.

Inspect crawl space annually The truth is, if your crawl space isn’t regularly inspected, you could have HVAC, electrical, and/or plumbing issues that are progressing day by day.  A neglected crawl space can contain:

  • Excessive humidity causing moisture issues
  • Leaking or broken duct work
  • Hazardous wiring that could be sparking
  • Improperly insulated pipes that could freeze in the winter months
  • Busted drains
  • Standing water

And that’s just to name a few.  The good news? As a Lee Company Home Maintenance Member, you’ll receive four annual visits from our expert technicians – and they’re happy to  inspect your crawl space.  For as low as $8.25/ month or $99/year you will receive an air conditioning tune-up, heating tune-up, electrical inspection, and plumbing inspection.  If you haven’t signed up already, give us a call today or visit us at LeeCompany.com!

Belmont University “LEEDs” the way

July 13, 2015

Congratulations to Belmont University! The university’s new flagship facility – the Wedgewood Academic Center – is the first newly constructed university building in Tennessee to achieve LEED Platinum Certification. LEED Platinum is the highest possible ranking for sustainability as measured by the U.S. Green Building Council.

What goes into a LEED Platinum building? As a recent article in The Tennessean noted, “Many factors contributed to the certification, including the building’s 18,600-square-foot roof garden, locally sourced construction materials, efforts to conserve electricity and even the way the toilets flush.”

Lee Company proudly takes credit for the plumbing and mechanical systems for this build, working with general contractor R. C. Mathews. We installed high-efficiency plumbing fixtures to optimize water savings, and provided locally sourced materials – such as piping systems and duct components – that were assembled in our prefabrication shop in Nashville.

The LEED certification isn’t the only honor attached to this outstanding facility. Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) awarded Lee Company a 2014 Award of Excellence for the mechanical work involved.

Helping Our Community: Unchained Movement

July 03, 2015

You might not think that sex trafficking is a problem in this part of the country. Unfortunately, that’s not the case. Sex trafficking is an issue for communities around the country, and the victims are often children or young women.

Unchained Movement is a local non-profit, dedicated to raising awareness about this issue and helping victims of sex trafficking make a successful transition into a better life. Unchained is taking an important step forward with the opening of a residential facility – a home for survivors of sex trafficking between the ages of 18 and 24 years old.

Lee Company was honored to help Unchained get the home in great shape for the six young women who will be the first residents. Our expert team installed a shower/tub combo, faucets and a new sink, in addition to fixing a few other plumbing issues. (Thanks to our friends at Ferguson for donating the fixtures!) We also made the HVAC repairs required for inspection approval.

The Unchained facility is more than a house. It is a home. During their time in the Unchained program, the residents will receive therapeutic services, addiction recovery assistance, educational services, case management, and life skills and job readiness training.

Lee Company is honored to help non-profits in all the communities we serve. Thanks to everyone on the team who pitched in on this Unchained project!
