Lee Company Vans4Cans food drive

Throughout the Lee Company offices, there has been a buzz as we have brought back the beloved tradition of Vans4Cans. With a new look, and a new design, our employees have been thriving with new ideas on how to raise funds for our local food banks. There are teams putting together bakes sales, pancake breakfasts, friendly competitions, and more. Bottom line is, Lee Company is getting even more creative for this year’s Vans4Cans food drive!

It’s amazing to see how the enthusiasm of helping others has been brought out in the hearts and minds of our employees. We know that 1 in 8 Americans struggle with hunger every single day – and that is a statistic we are looking to change.

Please join us!

Although our friendly competitions and donations have raised 31,000 pounds so far, we need your help to reach our goal of 70,000 pounds of food! From now through November 15, you can give a food donation to your Lee Company technician during your next service call. We’ll collect canned goods and other non-perishable food items and deliver all your generous contributions to the food banks the week before Thanksgiving.

Don’t have a service call scheduled? You can donate virtually here and just $5 can provide 20 meals for a family in need.

We know what a difference Vans4Cans makes in the communities we serve and we thank you for joining us in our fight against hunger!

Every year, Lee Company proudly renews our commitment to the American Heart Association

Every year, Lee Company proudly renews our commitment to the American Heart Association, one of our non-profit partners that helps make a difference in the communities we serve. Lee Company employees volunteer at the annual heart walks and hand out goodies to our friends and neighbors, while cheering on participants for a great cause.

2018 was a record-breaking year for the AHA. The Rutherford Heart Walk raised $109,000, The Warren County Heart Walk raised $75,000, The Huntsville Heart Walk raised $400,000, and The Nashville Heart Walk raised over $2 million! Everyone who attended these walks whether as a participant or a volunteer, felt the energy and passion behind the event.

“The American Heart Association’s mission is to be a relentless force in a world of longer, healthier lives. Our purpose is to be a catalyst to achieving maximum impact in equitable health and well-being in the United States and around the world, spanning all populations addressing overall health and well-being, anchored in cardiovascular and brain health,” says Sarah Joynt, Senior Heart Walk Director for the AHA.

“We do that through the volunteerism and support from companies like Lee Company in our campaign, Healthy For Good™, aimed at creating a culture of health in workplaces, schools, faith-based organizations, and communities by making the healthy choice the default choice. We celebrate our milestones, achievements, and our common interest to do more at the AHA’s signature event, the Heart Walk. Lee Company continues to be a staple not only in our own communities, but at the Heart Walk as well. We could not move forward our life-saving mission without your support and we are incredibly grateful.”

Providing solutions for how people can take preventative measures in improving their own heart health is how Lee Company continues to support the AHA and its Healthy For Good™ mission – and the heart walks are a great way to help spread the word! Vans4Cans 2018 - join in our fight against hunger

Pay the bills or put food on the table for your family. How would you decide what to do? Unfortunately too many of our neighbors have to make this decision every day. They’re not worried about what’s for dinner. They have to worry about whether there is anything for dinner.

Hunger in our Backyard

According to the latest statistics, 1 in 8 Middle Tennesseans, including 1 in 5 children, struggle with hunger every day. And you might be surprised at how many of them are our neighbors. Hard-working people who too often have to choose between paying bills and buying food.

Fortunately, by joining together we can make a difference.

2018 Vans4Cans

Lee Company is joining forces with local foods banks, including Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee; Kentucky’s Heartland Food Bank; and the Food Bank of North Alabama for our 2018 Vans4Cans program. From now until November 15, we have several opportunities to join in our fight against hunger:

  • Give canned food and other non-perishables to a Lee Company technician during your next service call
  • Drop off food donations at a Lee Company office
  • Donate to our Virtual Food Drive where 96 cents of every dollar goes directly to feeding programs

What items do the food banks need?

Here are the most needed items requested by the food banks:

  • Peanut butter
  • Macaroni and cheese
  • Canned fruit
  • Canned vegetables
  • Rice & beans
  • Canned chicken
  • Canned tuna
  • Cereal

At Lee Company, we are motivated to give back as a reflection of how much we have been given.  We thank you for joining us in to make a difference in the lives of our hungry neighbors. Together, we will fight hunger and feed hope!

What is Water Hammer and How to Prevent It

October 02, 2018

what is water hammer and how to prevent water hammer

Water hammer and its effects

If you’ve ever heard a loud bang when your washing machine stops its filling cycle or a thumping when you turn off a faucet, you’ve heard water hammer. Water hammer is a shock wave inside your pipes that results from water turning off suddenly, and the result is shaking pipes and banging noises.

Water hammer isn’t just annoying. It can cause damage to pipes, joints, connections, and fittings. If it continues for too long, you could experience water leaks or costly repairs.

How to reduce and prevent water hammer

There are several ways to reduce the effects of water hammer on your pipes. High water pressure is the general cause of water hammer, so the first step is to check the water pressure levels in your home. If the pressure exceeds 80 psi, it may be best to install a pressure regulator on the water main line.

Besides excessive water pressure at the main valve, water hammer can also be caused by water or debris in air chambers. If the plumbing in your home is older you may not have any air chambers installed.

If a single appliance seems to be causing your water hammer, you can install a water hammer arrestor. Arrestors will absorb the water jolt that comes from water valves closing suddenly which should stop the hammer noise from bothering you.

Lastly, it’s always important to make sure your pipes are mounted securely and fixed in place. Not properly secured pipes shake freely when water runs through them providing an ideal setting for water hammer.

Keep your home’s plumbing worry free

If water hammer is bothering you, the first step is to call a plumbing professional. Waiting too long may lead to water leaks or expensive repairs. To make sure your home’s plumbing system is inspected each year, consider signing up for a Lee Company Home Maintenance Plan. As a member, you’ll receive annual plumbing inspections to make sure everything water-related in your home is working properly. And if you suspect water hammer is a concern, ask one of our technicians to get an answer you can trust.
