Good News in the Neighborhood: Purity Moosic City DairyPure Dash - Lee Company

Established in 2000, The Purity Moosic City DairyPure Dash began as a 5K Race and one-mile walk to honor Glenn Wunder, a friend who died of pancreatic cancer. The one-mile walk/run event is now the “Lee Company sponsored Glenn Wunder Mighty Mile.” More than 200 young runners under the age of 12 compete to win the coveted Cow Bell award.

“When you see a parent cross the finish line with their child, hugging and cheering, saying, “We did it!” it really touches you on a personal level and reminds us of why our community involvement is at the heart of what we do.” – Emily Bonomo, Marketing Coordinator

The inaugural race in 2001 raised $5,000 for the American Cancer Society. Since then, the DairyPure Dash has raised over $850,000 for local nonprofits such as PENCIL, Gilda’s Club, Alive Hospice, High Hopes and others! This year’s beneficiary was Special Olympics Tennessee who was presented with a check for $130,000.

“We are blown away and thank you just isn’t enough to express our gratitude. We are so blessed! It is community partners like Lee Company and Purity’s Moosic City DairyPure Dash team that ensure the future success of our organization. Thank you!” – Special Olympics Tennessee

Over the years, the race has evolved by adding the 10K and the “Smitty” 15K races to support the growing number of attendees. Each participant receives a finisher medal and an ice cream treat at the finish line. This year, Bill Lee welcomed runners and introduced those races.

With close to 3,000 participants, the Purity Moosic City DairyPure Dash has become one of Nashville’s largest 5/10/15K races that is held in April, two weeks before the St. Jude Nashville Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon & 1/2 Marathon. The 2019 race benefactor will be The Jason Foundation held on Saturday, April 13, 2019. We look forward to once again partnering with Purity Dairies on this race and encourage you to join us as a runner, walker or volunteer next year!
