Congratulations to Belmont University! The university’s new flagship facility – the Wedgewood Academic Center – is the first newly constructed university building in Tennessee to achieve LEED Platinum Certification. LEED Platinum is the highest possible ranking for sustainability as measured by the U.S. Green Building Council.
What goes into a LEED Platinum building? As a recent article in The Tennessean noted, “Many factors contributed to the certification, including the building’s 18,600-square-foot roof garden, locally sourced construction materials, efforts to conserve electricity and even the way the toilets flush.”
Lee Company proudly takes credit for the plumbing and mechanical systems for this build, working with general contractor R. C. Mathews. We installed high-efficiency plumbing fixtures to optimize water savings, and provided locally sourced materials – such as piping systems and duct components – that were assembled in our prefabrication shop in Nashville.
The LEED certification isn’t the only honor attached to this outstanding facility. Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) awarded Lee Company a 2014 Award of Excellence for the mechanical work involved.
