Excellence in Construction – First Tennessee Park

November 13, 2015

Congratulations to the Lee Company team who worked on the First Tennessee Park project! Their outstanding work was recently recognized by the Greater Tennessee Chapter of the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) with an Eagle Award in the Mechanical Commercial/Industrial $2 – $10 million division.

As befitting an Eagle Award winner, this project was a soaring success. Sulphur Dell Ballpark is the original home of Nashville’s minor league baseball team, and was used for nearly 100 years – from 1870 through 1963. Building a new ballpark in this historic site was an important move for Nashville: Construction of First Tennessee Park was seen as a way to bring new life to the north side of the downtown area, an essential part of the city.

The construction was completed within 12 months, in time for the 2015 Spring Opener. The completed 100,000 square foot, state-of-the-art facility holds 10,000 baseball fans, with fixed seats and suites. The project is also designed to work as a multi-use facility, with an enhanced greenway, public green spaces, and the ability to accommodate a variety of city events.

Final score? Nashville won!

Construction colleagues, community leaders, the Nashville Sounds and local baseball fans agree with the ABC panel of experts: Lee Company hit this one out of the park. This state-of-the-art LEED Silver facility is a new point of pride for Nashville, a beautiful entertainment destination in the middle of an important historic site. Thanks to all involved!

Excellence in Construction – Belmont University

November 13, 2015

When you’re a top student on campus, you earn As. When you’re a top contractor on campus, you earn ABCs – an ABC award that is!

Congratulations to the Lee Company team who worked on the Belmont University Dining and Academic Center. The Greater Tennessee Chapter of the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) recently honored their work with a Merit Award in the Mechanical Commercial/Institutional $2 – 10 million division.

The new four-story facility was designed to be a flagship building, home to the Curb College of Entertainment and Music Business. It adds more than 134,000 square feet of mixed-use academic and dining space to Belmont’s growing campus.

Classrooms and faculty/staff offices on the first, third and fourth floors comprise approximately 70 percent of the building. The second-floor is dedicated to the kitchen and dining hall. The new dining hall provides seating for 1,000 people, a capacity that triples the current campus cafeteria. The new dining hall also offers an appealing outdoor patio facing into the beautiful Belmont campus.

And, to further accommodate campus expansion needs, the building sits atop a new parking garage that adds more than 1,000 parking spaces.

Don’t curb your enthusiasm

Belmont University wanted the Curb College project done in time for the class of 2015 and Lee Company delivered – on time and on budget. What can we do for you?

Blue Cross Blue Shield Takes a Healthy Approach to HVAC

October 06, 2015

Lee Company can help your facility achieve LEED certification.Congratulations to Blue Cross Blue Shield! The company has been awarded LEED certification for its Nashville office, following a major renovation of its heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system. LEED certification is awarded by the U.S. Green Building Council to facilities that demonstrate Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design.

Lee Company is proud to have helped BCBS achieve this environmental and construction success.

The Nashville facility presented a number of interesting challenges for our design and installation teams. For example, BCBS needed to keep its facility open during the renovation, so Lee Company skilled craftsmen worked after-hours to minimize disruptions. We discovered unexpected issues early on that could have been costly later, and successfully addressed them – a real benefit of our design build option. And we completed this project in an extremely aggressive time frame.

The final result is golden – the LEED gold certification. BCBS has a far more efficient HVAC system, employees have increased control over the temperatures in their offices, and Lee Company has successfully completed another outstanding LEED project!

When you’re ready to upgrade your facilities, give us a call. We’re happy to lead the way.

The Middle Half is the Best Half

October 02, 2015

It’s been over a year since we opened the doors to our Murfreesboro office and we love being part of this community!

One of the first things we did last year was get involved in the Murfreesboro Half Marathon, better known as the Middle Half. We had such a terrific time, we’re back this year: Your friends from Lee Company will be cheering the runners on as they pass the last water station on the course. We’ll also greet them at the finish line with fresh, cold towels and well-deserved congratulations!

As always, this half-marathon fills up fast. We’re proud to note that 10 of the registered runners are Lee Company employees. Thanks to the encouragement they received from runners last year, they decided to join in the fun this year, and we couldn’t be prouder of them.

Encouraging each other. Supporting each other. Applauding each other. That’s the Murfreesboro Middle Half spirit, and it’s a perfect fit with Lee Company. We’re delighted to be part of this terrific event and this amazing community. Thank you for welcoming us! We look forward to seeing you at the race, and serving your facility and residential needs all year long.

Paychecks for Patriots

September 29, 2015

American veterans keep America strong. At Lee Company, we’re proud to support our vets – and to hire them! We have many veterans on staff, and have found that their discipline, dedication and determination are a perfect fit with the Lee Company culture. We share the same values, with a rock-solid commitment to excellence, integrity, ethics and compassion.

The connection is clear from day one. At Lee Company, veterans have the opportunity to build a satisfying professional career while continuing to serve their community. For example, one Lee Company team could be changing the Nashville skyline with buildings and structures that define the future. On the other side of town, another Lee Company team might be helping a family turn a house in need of repair into a welcoming home.

Either way – in facilities or homes – the work we do helps shape the world around us.

Opportunities abound

For veterans interested in translating their military experience into administrative excellence, Lee Company offers additional opportunities. For example, our senior vice president of operations, Stuart Price, applies the lessons he learned at the U.S. Naval Academy and the leadership experience he gained as a Navy officer to help Lee Company customers every day.

Veterans like Stuart are accustomed to being part of a greater good, to contributing their talents to strengthen and protect our country. Lee Company is honored to give vets an opportunity to continue serving and helping while, at the same time, building a career that brings joy and rewards to them and their families.

Join us this Thursday

To demonstrate our commitment, Lee Company is sponsoring and participating in Paychecks for Patriots, a hiring event for veterans and their families. If you – or anyone you know! – might be interested, please join us at:

Sharing lessons learned: Bill Lee to speak at Belmont University

September 17, 2015

As a family-oriented business, our corporate culture and community commitment are built on a strong ethical foundation, set in place more than 70 years ago. Lee Company is a place where employees thrive, customers are well-served and helping the community is a regular, hands-on practice.

Bill Lee, Lee Company CEONow, the lessons we’ve learned over the years – lessons that have helped us gain recognition as one of Tennessee’s “Best Companies to Work For” – will help other organizations and the next generation of business leaders.

CEO Bill Lee will be at Belmont University Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2015, for two special presentations. In a convocation to students and an address to academic, business and community leaders, Bill will highlight the value of creating an ethical organizational culture and the role executive leadership play in nurturing effective cultural change.

The ethical advantage

Ethics matter – no matter what industry you’re in. Lee Company customers trust us to handle maintenance and repair work in their homes and facilities. Education matters too. In keeping with our corporate culture, Lee Company provides ongoing educational opportunities to employees. This outreach at Belmont University is a wonderful way for us to extend that philosophy and share our approach.

Our thanks to Avenue Bank, the Edward C. Kennedy Center for Business Ethics at Belmont University and Rogers Group for sponsoring Bill Lee’s presentation.

Many of our neighbors are hungry. Let’s help them.

September 02, 2015

Join Lee Company in the fight against hunger

No one should have to choose between food and medical care. No one should have to choose between buying groceries and paying the mortgage. But every day – in communities around the country and in homes around the block – our neighbors are doing just that. They’re deciding whether to buy milk or medicine. They’re watering down food and drinks. They’re wondering what to feed the kids.

We can help put nutritious food on the table

Lee Company, a longtime supporter of the Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee, is honored to be a sponsor of Hunger Action Month throughout September. And, we’re not stopping at the end of the month! Lee Company is also running its Vans4Cans campaign, to support Second Harvest and the Food Bank of North Alabama.

Please join us!

It’s easy to give. From now through late November, please give a food donation to your Lee Company technician during your next service call. We’ll collect canned goods and other non-perishable food items and deliver all your generous contributions to the food banks the week before Thanksgiving.

Help fight hunger in Middle Tennessee with Lee Company.

We’ve done this before, and we know what a difference Vans4Cans makes in the communities we serve. We also know we can count on you to help us in this fight against hunger. Your support and contributions fill our vans and our hearts. With your generosity and goodness, we can all be a blessing.

Thank you, and remember: Your home is where our heart is.

A Blitz and a Blessing

August 17, 2015

“Your home is where our heart is.” And, in July, Lee Company’s professional plumbers embraced a heartwarming opportunity, volunteering for our third annual Builders Blitz with Habitat for Humanity of Williamson and Maury counties.

During the 15-day build, our team provided all the plumbing labor required at the new home, including installation of the water heater.

“We love serving our community, so every year we look forward to the Home Builders Blitz,” says Zac Coppock, Plumbing Field Supervisor. “It’s wonderful to be part of the teamwork and dedication that goes into building a home that will be a great blessing to a deserving family in need!”

This year’s home was built for KaRynda Barner and her three daughters. Since applying to Habitat for Humanity in October 2011, KaRynda has been working hard for their new home, taking the required classes and building sweat equity by helping to build homes for other families.

“I loved working on other homes and taking classes on how to maintain my house,” KaRynda says. “I feel so blessed that I will have the opportunity to own my own home. I look forward to being able to provide a better life for my children. The Habitat program is such a blessing.”

Thanks to our friends at Kenny Pipe and Supply for donating the plumbing materials. Working together, we can all be a blessing. You’ll find more information on Habitat for Humanity here.

Safety tips to start the school year

August 10, 2015

Back_to_school

As families throughout our community start out the 2015-16 school year, it’s the perfect time to brush up on a few school-related safety tips. Safety is an integral part of Lee Company’s culture, so it’s a pleasure for us to share these reminders with you:

  • Do you drive through a school zone on the way to work? Slow down! Watch out for the increased traffic, kids darting across the street and police officers enforcing the reduced speed limit. Give yourself a little extra time to get where you’re going, and avoid unnecessary stress and potential accidents.
  • Put the phone away. School kids don’t always remember to look both ways, so it’s extremely important for drivers to pay full attention to the road.  If that text or call can’t wait, pull over.
  • Keep a copy of your kids’ schedule, so you know what time to pick them up or when they should call to let you know they’re home. Now’s the perfect time to add school holidays, teacher workshops, etc., to your calendar. We have included 2015-2016 school calendars here for you!
  • Take a photo of your kids on the first day of school. It’s a wonderful memory and it’s important to always have a current photo.
  • Do your kids ride their bikes to school? Walk? Take the bus? Whatever mode of transportation they use, you want them to get there and back safely. Download more safety tips here.
