We believe careers in the trades are more than a job; they’re journeys. Every employee brings unique skills, passions, and goals, and we’ve seen firsthand how those evolve over time. For some, the path starts as an apprentice, learning the fundamentals on the job site. For others, it’s about making a mid-career move to explore a new discipline. However, the journey begins, growth here is real and attainable, fueled by mentorship, training, and a culture that invests in people.
From Apprentice to Leader
Some of the most inspiring stories at Lee Company come from employees who started at the very beginning—new apprentices eager to learn—and worked their way into leadership roles. Their journeys show what’s possible when opportunity and hard work come together.
One powerful example is Glenn B., who was promoted to Facility Service Project Manager. Glenn joined Lee Company as a Lead Installer and has consistently delivered exceptional results on complex installation projects. Beyond his technical skill, he’s made a lasting impact by mentoring helpers who’ve gone on to become lead installers themselves. His leadership and commitment have helped shape the strong work ethic and positive culture that define our team.
Another story of fast-tracked growth comes from someone who’s advanced through several key roles here. Dean S. began as a parts runner in high school and has since served as an HVAC Service Technician, HVAC Supervisor, and Service Manager before stepping into his current role as a Home Services Sales Consultant. “My first job at Lee Company was as a parts runner while I was a senior in high school,” he said. “This career choice has challenged me both personally and professionally. I’ve had the chance to progress at an extremely fast rate due to the many opportunities available at Lee Company.”
These stories remind us that the trades offer genuine upward mobility. Advancement doesn’t depend on where you come from, but on where you’re willing to go. With a company culture that rewards dedication and initiative, our apprentices can become tomorrow’s project leaders, safety coordinators, or service managers.
Mentorship and Training Matter
Growth doesn’t happen in isolation. It’s fueled by the right systems and support. Mentorship plays a vital role in shaping career paths. Experienced professionals invest time in teaching newer employees not just the technical skills of the trade, but also the values of safety, teamwork, and customer care that define our work.
Alongside mentorship, structured training ensures our people are always learning. Whether it’s classroom instruction, hands-on labs, or certifications in the latest technologies, employees have access to the resources they need to advance. Continuous education isn’t a side benefit. It’s central to how we do business.
We’ve seen this firsthand in our Summer Internship Program, where interns often transition into full-time roles and continue growing with the company. Their success highlights how intentional training and mentorship can spark long-term careers in the trades.
This emphasis on support means employees aren’t left to figure things out on their own. Instead, they have a network of colleagues, leaders, and educators who want to see them succeed. When a company prioritizes mentorship and ongoing training, it creates an environment where growth is both expected and achievable.
Growth Isn’t Always Linear
While some employees follow a traditional path from apprentice to foreman to manager, others find their careers take a less direct route, and that’s just as valuable. Growth isn’t always about climbing a straight ladder; sometimes it’s about making lateral moves, rediscovering passion, or building new expertise in a different trade.
Garner C., now a Senior Superintendent, has seen his share of evolution both personally and within the company. Starting as a green plumber’s helper in 2005, he’s grown into a leadership role by staying adaptable and embracing new challenges. “Don’t be afraid of change,” he said.“Throughout the years, I have seen quite a bit of change in the company. If we are going to continuously improve and grow as a company and as individuals, there will have to be change.”
We’ve seen that success in the trades isn’t always about following one set path. Sometimes, it’s about exploring different specialties, reigniting a passion for the work, or finding a role that better fits your strengths—like safety coordination, leadership, or sales. These moments of redirection aren’t detours—they’re powerful steps toward growth and impact.
Flexibility is part of what makes a career in the trades so rewarding. Employees can shape their path to match their evolving interests and strengths. We embrace these unique journeys, knowing that every new direction helps us build stronger teams and deliver better service to our customers.
Building a Future Together
Ultimately, the common thread in every career journey at Lee Company is growth. Whether it’s rising from apprentice to leader, benefiting from mentorship and training, or taking a nontraditional path to success, our employees know they don’t have to stay in one place. Their careers can move forward, sideways, or upward, wherever their skills and passions lead.
We’re a company that sees potential in people and helps them realize it. The trades offer more than steady work. They offer lifelong opportunities. We’re building more than projects. We’re building futures.
