In 1968, Eunice Kennedy Shriver created an organization to support equal opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities. Her initiative, which started as Camp Shriver, was incorporated as Special Olympics and has become a global movement. For the past decade, we have proudly supported Special Olympics by hosting an annual golf tournament that raises funds and awareness for this wonderful organization.
Joanne Drumright, Executive Vice President for Special Olympics Tennessee, is incredibly grateful for our continued support and partnership: “We’re able to provide so many additional opportunities for athletes thanks to what Lee Company has done for our organization.”
Drumright, who has been associated with Special Olympics for 38 years, went on to say, “People with intellectual disabilities want to be just like us. They want the opportunity to play golf, run on a track, sit with their peers in the lunchroom, and go to movies with their friends. And they want people to know they are more alike than there are differences.”

Back in the swing of things
This year, the energy was buzzing on Hole #9 at the Governors Club in Brentwood. We had four athletes who putted first for each team: Eric Wilson, Matthew Drumright, Connor Bosse, and Teresa Dennis.
An eagle is when a player completes a hole two shots under par, and Connor got three eagles! Smiling and sharing stories, they interacted with each team who came through. If you’re interested in learning more about Special Olympics and how they make an impact in our communities, click here.
