Safety is a core value for us at Lee Company. Safety as a priority is a traditional and common phrase, but we know priorities change. Whatever is most important in the moment is typically what gets attention.

For us, safety comes from within and involves integrity – doing the right thing when no one is looking. If our employees know the value in being safe, they may choose to be safe on and off the job. And that can save lives!

Driving safely is one of the most difficult things to accomplish for anyone. We tend to get in too big of a hurry, or we let our guard down for just a few seconds, therefore running into problems. At Lee Company, we recognized a need to do something different when it came to driving. Each vehicle accident has potential to cause serious injury to our teammates, and to our community.

We formed a Driving Safety Task team made up of our technicians and managers. They then created a system for scoring drivers who promote safe driving habits. The scores involve overall driving, feedback, and accidents of any kind. And it’s not only a yearly celebration. We celebrate with quarterly winners where prizes include money to our employee store. The big winner is the “Driver of the Year,” who receives a $500 voucher to our employee store and the next new vehicle from our fleet.

This year’s winner, Cody S. was honorably mentioned, or the Safety Champion, almost every month of 2022. Cody is a HVAC Service Technician from our Bellevue office and he exemplified how to drive safely all year. Cody drove 30,670 miles, while having an overall driver score of 100%. On top of that, Cody and his helper were recognized by a Bellevue police officer for stopping and helping put out a small house fire they noticed as they drove down the road. Way to go Cody!
